Ethereum is the second-largest crypto asset, and the people selling it in Nigeria usually fall into two groups. Traders who bought low and want the profit in Naira. And freelancers who took payment in ETH because the client offered it.
Either way the conversion itself takes 15-30 minutes once your transfer confirms. What changes your payout is gas, and gas is where most ETH sellers get caught out.
An ETH payout comes from three multipliers stacked on top of each other.
The first is the global ETH/USD price, which swings hard. The second is the dollar-to-Naira rate, which moves daily. The third is the platform's current quote.
Stack those and you get a number that can shift several percent in a day without anyone doing anything wrong. USDT doesn't behave like this, because its dollar peg removes the first multiplier entirely. That's the core difference between selling the two assets.
Gas is the fee you pay the Ethereum network to move your ETH. It has nothing to do with GiftCash NG.
Two things set the size of it: how busy the network is, and how fast you want the transaction to land. Busy periods push the price up, sometimes sharply. A transfer that costs a dollar on a quiet Sunday morning can cost several times that during a market spike.

What you can't control is the network itself. If gas spikes between your quote and your send, re-quote rather than sending a stale amount.

Sell ETH when you think the price is high, because that's the only lever you get. Sell USDT when you just need Cedis or Naira in hand and don't want to think about timing.
A common pattern is converting ETH to USDT during a peak, then converting the USDT later at your convenience. It costs two network fees, so it only makes sense if you're protecting a meaningful gain.
Gas ate the margin. On a small ETH sale, gas can take a larger share of the value than the exchange spread does. Below a certain size it's worth waiting and trading a bigger amount.
Funds still on an exchange. Withdrawing ETH from a trading platform triggers a network fee and a waiting period before the ETH is even in your hands. Budget for it.
Sent during a spike. The transfer confirmed, but at a fee that wiped out the gain. Check gas before you send, not after.
Wrong network. ETH has its own chain, and some wallets also handle wrapped or bridged versions. Confirm you're sending real ETH on the Ethereum mainnet.
Security basics apply here the same as anywhere. Two-factor authentication on the wallet and the account, and never send to an address that came in through a chat message. Only the address shown on the platform.
