Nordstrom is a department store, and a department store gift card is worth more in the resale market than a single-chain card for a simple reason: the balance can be spent across a wide spread of products. That shows up in the payout, and Nordstrom sits near the top of the table.
A Nordstrom gift card loads credit that spends at Nordstrom stores and on Nordstrom's site. The range covers designer fashion, shoes, accessories, beauty counters, and home goods. It's a closed-loop card, which means the balance works at Nordstrom and nowhere else.
That single-store limit sounds like a weakness, and it's the opposite. A department store pulls in a wide group of shoppers, from someone buying a dress to someone replacing a kettle, and a balance that appeals to a wide group is easier for a buyer to resell. Compare it with a card locked to one category, like a games store, where the buyer pool is a fraction of the size.
The published payout from the GiftCash NG rate table, captured on 23 September 2026:
| Market | Face value range | Rate per $1 |
|---|---|---|
| Nigeria | $100 - $500 | ₦1,051 |
| Ghana | $100 - $500 | ₵9.13 |
In full, the Nigerian range runs from ₦105,125 for a $100 card up to ₦525,623 for a $500 card, which is ₦1,051 per dollar across the whole band. The Ghanaian side runs from ₵912.95 to ₵4,564.76.
Two things about that table are easy to miss. The naira and cedi figures are published separately for each market, so one isn't a conversion of the other. And the band starts at $100, which means a Nordstrom card below that value doesn't have a published rate at all.
The Nigerian table publishes a reference line of 1 USD = ₦1,331. Against that, Nordstrom's ₦1,051 per dollar works out to about 79 percent of the official rate. That puts it in the top group of the table alongside Lululemon and Razer Gold, which pay the same ₦1,051 per dollar.
The pattern behind that group is worth understanding, because it tells you where to expect a good payout. The cards that sit highest share one trait: the balance can be spent on a broad range of goods. Apple tops the table at ₦1,127 per dollar because an Apple balance covers apps, music, storage, and hardware. Nordstrom, Lululemon, and Razer follow because each one gives the buyer a wide shelf to resell against.
At the other end, the Xbox card pays ₦458 per dollar, which is under half the Nordstrom rate. Its balance only spends inside one gaming ecosystem, so the buyer pool is smaller and the discount is wider. The gap between the top and the bottom of the table is roughly 2.5 times, and demand depth is the reason.
Three cards on the Nigerian table pay exactly the same ₦1,051 per dollar: Nordstrom, Lululemon, and Razer Gold. That's not a coincidence and it isn't a rounding artefact. The three sit in one demand tier.
All three give a buyer a wide shelf to resell against. Nordstrom covers fashion, beauty, and home goods. Lululemon covers a premium athletic line with steady demand. Razer Gold covers digital purchases across a large catalogue of games and services. Different products, similar resale depth, which is why the pricing lands them on one figure.
For you as a seller, that has one practical consequence. If you hold more than one of these three, there's no rate advantage in choosing which to sell first, so sell whichever you need the cash from. The order matters against the bottom of the table instead. An Xbox card pays ₦458 per dollar, under half the Nordstrom figure, so if you're clearing out several cards at once, move the low-paying ones first.
Payments go by bank transfer in Nigeria and by Mobile Money or bank transfer in Ghana.
Face value. The published band runs from $100 to $500 at a flat rate per dollar, so moving up within the band doesn't lift the percentage. Cards above $500 are worth asking about individually.
The issuing region. A US-issued Nordstrom card is the standard case. Cards from other markets price differently, so say which country the card came from.
Balance verification. A card whose balance can be confirmed quickly clears faster and gets fewer questions. Read the balance before you sell rather than quoting it from memory.
Whether it's a code or a card. Digital codes and physical cards follow different verification paths. Neither is refused, but support will ask which one you have.
One item worth knowing if you still have the original receipt: it won't change the published rate, but it removes a verification step. Keep it with the card.
A code or PIN is irreversible once shared. Agree the figure in writing before you send anything, and treat any buyer who asks for an upfront activation or processing fee as a closed conversation. The Nigeria scam alert covers those patterns in detail.
Check the live rate table for the current Nordstrom figure, or send your card details through the contact page if your card falls outside the published band.
