Sell Nike Gift Cards in Ghana: What Vendors Pay in Cedis

Sep 23, 2026, 02:29 AM | 4 views

A Nike card arrives in Ghana one of two ways. Somebody abroad sends it as a gift, or you buy it yourself for a pair of sneakers that then sold out in your size. Either way the balance just sits there, because a Nike card bought in the US spends on the US Nike store, and a UK card only works on the UK one.

So it gets sold. Pricing it is the awkward part, because Nike isn't one of the 28 brands on our published board. Here's how quotes work in Accra, Kumasi and Tema, and the real numbers to hold any quote against.

Why Nike has no flat rate in Ghana

The live board at giftcashng.com/rates prints bands for 28 brands. That snapshot was taken at 10:20 CST on 23 September 2026. Nike isn't on it. Neither is Adidas.

The cards that stay on the board are the ones where the same code sells every week at a predictable price. Steam, Apple, PlayStation and Xbox behave that way. Sportswear doesn't. Demand jumps around a launch and then goes flat for weeks, so a rate printed today is stale by Friday. Nike gets priced per card instead, which is why the Nike page asks for your details rather than printing a table.

That's not a dodge. It's the only honest way to price a $300 sneaker card in a market that moves that fast. What it does mean is that you should know the neighbourhood before you ask.

What the published Ghana rates look like today

You need a floor to argue from. Below is what the board pays for the retail and sportswear cards closest to Nike, with the top of every dollar row for scale. Each band is printed on the page. The per-dollar figure is the top of the band divided by the top face value, which is how you compare two cards of different sizes.

CardFace value bandCedis per $1
Apple / iTunes$150 - $500₵9.79
Nordstrom$100 - $500₵9.13
Lululemon$100 - $500₵9.13
Foot Locker$100 - $500₵8.78
Sephora$100 - $500₵8.67
Macy$100 - $500₵8.44
PlayStation$10 - $500₵6.93
Google Play$50 - $500₵6.36
Amazon$100 - $500₵5.66
Xbox$10 - $500₵3.98

Foot Locker is the one to watch. It's the nearest thing on the board to a sneaker card, and it pays ₵8.78 for every dollar of face value, which across a $100 to $500 band means ₵878.28 up to ₵4,391.41. Macy sits at ₵8.44, Sephora at ₵8.67, and Lululemon and Nordstrom at ₵9.13. That window is where a sportswear card belongs.

Then look at the bottom. Xbox pays ₵3.98 a dollar. If a quote for your Nike card lands near ₵4, somebody is pricing it like a console card and hoping you won't check.

Apple and iTunes hold ₵9.79 across their $150 to $500 band, which is the peak of every dollar row on the board. The cheaper end of the list runs well below that, with Google Play at ₵6.36 and Xbox at ₵3.98.

How a Nike quote gets built

Four things decide the number, and you can check three of them before you send anything.

  1. Face value. Bigger isn't automatically better. Apple pays ₵9.48 on a $40 to $50 card and ₵9.79 on a $150 one, but Amazon's $100 to $500 band pays ₵5.66 against ₵5.78 on the smaller band. Ask for the band, not the total.
  2. Region and currency. A US card, a UK card and a euro card are three different products once they reach Ghana. A £100 Nike card and a $100 Nike card don't land in the same place, so name the currency when you ask.
  3. Code or plastic. A digital code you can read off a photo is verified in minutes. A physical card means somebody has to trust that the strip hasn't been scratched, and that costs you a little on the rate.
  4. Receipt and condition. An unused card with the till receipt is the easy case. Partly used balances get checked figure by figure.

Steam and Xbox are the only two cards on the board quoted in four currencies, dollar, pound, euro and Canadian dollar. That matters here, because the pound row on Steam pays ₵10.52 per pound against ₵7.17 on the dollar row. If your card came from a relative in London rather than New Jersey, you're holding the better half of that gap.

Quotes that are too good to be true

Two patterns cost sellers in Ghana money every week.

The first is a number above the published top of the table. If someone offers ₵11 or ₵12 for a dollar of Nike balance, they aren't a buyer, they're setting you up. Nothing on the board pays above ₵9.79 a dollar, and that's the peak of the list. A number that high only works if the seller never gets paid.

The second is a fee. Any buyer who wants an activation charge, a tax or a release fee before paying you is running the oldest trick in this market. Real buyers take their margin out of the published rate. They never bill you first. We've written both patterns up, and the Telegram scam guide walks through the scripts line by line.

Getting the cedis onto your phone

Mobile Money is how this lands in Ghana, and all three networks work.

  1. Confirm the card's region and currency, then check the balance yourself on the issuer's site.
  2. Photograph the card and keep the till receipt. Don't send the code yet.
  3. Send the card name, face value, currency and the photo, and ask for a quote.
  4. Compare the number against the retail window above. If it lands lower, ask what would move it.
  5. Send the code only after you and the buyer have agreed the rate.
  6. Take the payout on MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash or AT Money, and keep the reference until the alert lands.

Verification and payout together run 15 to 30 minutes. The usual killer is the name rule. Ghana ties a wallet to a Ghana Card, so a MoMo number still registered to a cousin can't take the money. Fix that before you sell, not after.

Bank transfer earns its place at the top of the range. Moving ₵4,391.41 from a large card through a branch beats walking out of an agent's kiosk with that much cash in your pocket.

Price your card before someone prices it for you

Two minutes of homework changes the conversation. Open the live board, find the retail cards sitting next to your Nike balance, and fix the ₵8.44 to ₵9.13 window in your head. Then send your details to the Nike page and ask for a number. If you'd rather see the arithmetic for one specific face value, the cedis calculator does it in a step, and the general Nike card guide covers where these cards redeem. Sellers in Accra and Tema run off the same national board, so these numbers hold across the country.
