A Steam card is the easiest gift to buy for someone in Ghana. Your brother in Toronto grabs one at a pharmacy, types your email, and it's done.

Ten dollars. Twenty. Whatever he felt like spending.

Then it just sits there. If you don't buy games on Steam, that balance is only a number in your inbox.

And what it's worth in Cedis comes down to one detail. The currency printed on the card. Here's what Steam pays on the Ghana rate table, pulled off the live page on 15 September 2026 at 21:32 CST.

What a Steam card pays in Cedis today

Two cards on the Ghana table carry four currencies. Steam is one of them, and each row has its own price.

Every one of those rows runs in a straight line. Take the top of the USD range, ₵3,564.10, and divide by 500. You get ₵7.13 per dollar. Do the same on the others and you land on ₵10.46 per pound, ₵9.08 per euro and ₵5.52 per Canadian dollar.

What you can't do is treat these as fixed. Steam rates move with supply, and supply swings around school holidays and Christmas. The numbers above are today's numbers, not a promise.

The currency on your card decides the payout

Here's where people lose money. A Steam card bought in London is denominated in pounds. A card bought in Lagos is in dollars. Same brand, same code format, just different rows on the rate table.

Now look at the per-unit figures again. A pound returns ₵10.46 and a dollar returns ₵7.13.

That gap isn't free money. The pound is worth more than the dollar, and that explains most of the difference. So don't go hunting for GBP cards.

The rule is simpler than that. Match the row to the card. Submit a £50 card under the USD option and the trade stalls at verification, then you wait a day for support to sort it. Pick the currency printed on the face of the card and you're fine.

One more thing before you pick. The USD row starts at a $10 face value and the Canadian row starts at C$10. Anything smaller has no published price. How the Cedis actually reaches you

All of this runs from your phone. Nobody needs to meet anyone in a car park at Circle.

1. Confirm the balance before you submit. Log into the Steam account the card was redeemed to, or check the code balance first. A partly spent card gets refused, and you'd rather know that now than tomorrow morning.
2. Pick Steam and the right currency on the Steam sell page. It asks for the card type and the currency. Getting the currency right here skips the whole verification queue.
3. Upload the code and a photo. A shot of the physical card or the purchase email both work. Blurry images are the most common reason a Ghana trade stalls.

Four reasons a Steam card gets refused in Ghana

• The code is already redeemed. People check a card, forget they applied it to their own library, then submit it months later. That's the most common one.
• Wrong currency selected. Submitting a GBP card under USD, or a Canadian card under USD, delays everything while support fixes it.
• Cheap reseller codes. Steam cards bought at a discount in Telegram groups are often fraud-sourced. Those get clawed back after payout and your account gets flagged, which costs you more than the trade was worth.
