Ghana tells the same story in smaller numbers. Airbnb returns ₵5,427.22 at £500, H&M returns ₵5,077.08 and Matalan returns ₵4,960.36, so Airbnb is ₵466.86 ahead of Matalan.

So the floor tells you whether a card will price your voucher, not how well it pays. Matalan sits eighth of twelve pound bands. The three cheapest lines on the column, Currys, Every-wish and Youchoosea at ₦1,087.93 per pound, sit below it by 6.25 percent.

The board moved 1.92% in naira but only 0.43% in cedis

This is the part worth reading before you decide to wait for a better day.

Between 26 October at 21:24 and tonight just after 19:11, all 53 bands on the board moved up. In the naira view they rose 1.920 percent. In the cedis view they rose 0.425 percent. Same direction, four and a half times apart.

Matalan's £500 row went from ₦567,077 to ₦577,963, up ₦10,886. The cedis row went from ₵4,939.36 to ₵4,960.36, up ₵21.00.

Now put those two numbers side by side. Holding a £500 Matalan voucher for a day earned a Nigerian seller ₦10,886. Picking Airbnb over Matalan on the same day was worth ₦54,396, five times as much, without waiting at all.

The two views are priced on separate boards, so don't read Ghana's move off Nigeria's numbers. A seller in Accra who watched the naira board rise 1.92 percent would have expected about ₵95 on a £500 voucher. They got ₵21. Check the cedis board if you're being paid in cedis.

How to sell a Matalan gift card from Lagos, Abuja, Accra or Kumasi
